Service Snaps!

Service Touch! In the bull run of consumerism and business proliferations, India has seen a huge leap forward in improving its outreach to every nook and corner of the country and the globe. Inter alia, the services industry has masqueraded to help consumers but never bothered to master the art of the industry. A small but, nonetheless insignificant, experience shared by a friend was an eye opener to the coolie class services that we are subscribed to. Tour operators book in volume that helps them get heaps of discounts in bulk that are never passed on to the customers. But these operators never think about the comfort of the customers even after profiting hugely from the transactions committed. It was one such trips that a friend too with his wife and kids to Singapore from Mumbai. After crossing the multiple check barriers installed on the Indian side, they were amazed by the seamless flow of checks on the Singaporean side. As they took a cab to their hotel, the wif

Sir Ahuja

Sir Ahuja Realisation was swift and, swifter was the need to get someone teach the likes of us good English, that'd make us more presentable in interviews. Among us, it was Ahuja, who had an exemplary flair and command over the language. Undisputed it was as we were too noob to challenge his authority in any manner whatsoever! With no intended pun, whenever he spake, we used to rush for the dictionaries, that were handy, to browse for the meanings of the words he used meticulously in sentences. It would be great fun to find a mistaken usage that he'd snub saying it was a figurative use. Not knowing sufficient English turned out to be a bane to tread in this modern world. Sufficient, I say because, we all had passed English as a subject in the board examinations. Never realised that the language would rattle us in this manner. All of the language that we knew, was sufficient to cater to our pursuits in science and engineering. It was only after passing out of college

The Charm of Badey Sharmaji and Chhotey Sharmaji

The Charm of Badey Sharmaji and Chhotey Sharmaji The year, 1992. After finishing engineering, my friend Sanjay decided to move to Delhi from Tripura in search of job. Job was scarce those days and more was so in the northeastern States if the branch wasn't civil or electrical. He booked an air ticket to Calcutta, as was Kolkata known those days, and then by railroad to New Delhi. Air tickets to Calcutta from Agartala was difficult to get as it served as a lifeline with only one operator flying twice a day at subsidised government rates. Getting a reserved seat in trains was difficult too in those days of manual system that prevailed. But then, his accommodation was ready and available with confirmation that was arranged through a common friend. For someone from the Northeast, the metros were places where it simply didn't suit the lifestyle and more the so, the people out there. Alienation was more than the desired levels of acceptance. It was his grit and determination

Of Cats and Rats

It was recently remarked by a learned friend that when it came to catch rats, any cat would do! It took some time to analyse what he said. It was too true to believe! We indeed put people of any calibre to churn out magic in marketplace. And yes, some with meagre or not qualifications do excellent jobs at  the helm. This phenomenon is not restricted to our country alone, but then, on second thoughts, persons with skills in a trade perform or may perform or should perform well when heading a trade that ones educated in. This is where breeds of cats come into play when catching rats with different abilities that they specialise in. Those cats that undergo skilled training to hunt down rats in different terrains and conditions shall be of greater demand and execute the job flawlessly indeed. Then, there are the moles and mouses to tackle that require the best breeds of cats and well trained ones. It may also be true that different animals may also be trained to embrace rat-ki
