DETOX

Detox, a short form or hip word for detoxification, basically refers to cleaning the blood that flows in our body. This is done by removing impurities from the blood in the liver, where toxins are processed for elimination. The body also eliminates toxins through the kidneys, intestines, lungs, lymph and skin. It is when this system is compromised, impurities aren't properly filtered and, every cell in the body is adversely affected that in turn affects the entire machinery. We are hounded by sickness. More the so, it's not easy on the pocket.

This write-up is to kindle another form of detox that we need to imbibe in our lives. But then, for most of us, it's difficult or rather ignorant of the impelling idea to know if one need to detoxify at all.

Today, with more toxins in the environment than ever, "it's critical to detox," says Linda Page, N.D., Ph.D., the author of Detoxification.

But then, apart from physical detoxification of the human body, another area of detoxification is the brain or our mind that's rued by the ever pervasive smart devices that we cannot live without. Our preoccupation with these devices is gradually eating into our mind and soul, an addiction that is inevitably unavoidable. We being normal human beings certainly cannot make deterrence work but might be that the burden on our mind and soul be gradually reduced. Thanks to the continuous proliferation of technology that acts as a benchmark to the progress made by civilisation. Two millions Indians are reportedly using free Wi-Fi in Indian Railway stations according to a report compiled by Sundar Pichai of Google and, many more where free or paid wi-fi have been made available for commercial or non commercial use. Whereas advent of smart devices and the Internet has life more comfortable with state of art technology, it has taken a toll on our health. This also has led to a gradual decline of our happiness quotient. We are now held hostage by technology.

Wisdom lies in living a life as per natural laws, glorifying every stage of life in its original beauty without any makeup. Arrest this potential health risk and device your own methodology to detox.

Though it may not be denied that Internet and its alluring access to information is beneficial to all, then, the ability to resist its lures is totally in our hands. The wow factor that the media sensationalises should be clearly understood for efficacy and control by practising restraint.

Time has come to remain aloof from the alluring digital and virtual world for some time, at least once or twice a year if not more, to free the mind from junks and help it to recharge through relishing natural bliss in a serene Internet-free environment. Friends, it is time right now to introspect and plan a digital and virtual world detox time to time to avoid getting addicted to social media and internet as a whole. Check yourself now!

Barely had my son completed the honours of closing the garage gates that I usually do and, settled down in the co-driver’s seat while I was at the wheels. It was parked momentarily by the road near my residence, before intending to take off to attend to an appointment wit...

Any resemblance to persons living or dead may be purely coincidental] With credits to Mrs. Papia Kundu nee Mondal a friend from childhood Dipak had barely completed his diploma in civil engineering when he landed in a job as a junior engineer in a central government department. Such personnel were the eyes of the organisation at the ground level. It was a mass recruitment of sorts where, the country was reshaping itself, a couple of decades after independence. Observing his deft skill-sets, he was selected by his peers for a foreign posting, most immediately. Every...

Dear Bubu

[With inputs from Shri. Soumendra Choudhury, Scientist F (Retd.)] Bubu or Bubu-na as we lovingly called him, left for his heavenly abode on the 9 th of May 2024 after a brief but painful illness. It was the cruel hands of Cancer that took him away. Truly, the world of Western Medicine hasn't yet matured to handle a disease like Cancer yet. It is with deep grief that we mourn his untimely demise especially, that it is affecting all young hearts beyond what is common in such cases. I take this opportunity to narrate and describe our best moments that shall be cherished forever. We're great friends. His elder brother Raja was my colleague during his posting in Gangtok, Sikkim. I used to visit them quite often and often stayed the night enjoying with food and booze as friends do. Being constantly in touch, it is nightmarish plangencies to believe that he is no more. He was an extremely polite and affable person throughout. His health was deteriorating fast but, the doctors t...
