Most charming were the girls of our class. Everyone has had the supernatural inherent qualities to outdo each other. This was a marvelous combination of traits. But what exactly am I referring to? Girls, who have now crossed the half century mark now, have evolved into beautiful ladies. But the urge to take on each other, though obscure, is very much prevalent. It's still catfights!
Catfights are most enjoyed when someone sprinkles water on the fighting cats! The pun continues unhindered with the boys still hit at their antics that they were accustomed to in their school heydays, without compromising that almost four decades having sailed by. There's an unapparelled ubiquitous love and hate relationship that still shroud Raampyari and Raamdulari. On field, the battle was fierce. None could take them on, leave aside the umpire or referee who would scratch his bald head over the tiff.
Raampyari and Raamdulari were the cynosure of all. They were excellent in studies and extra cocurricular activities. And, a fierce competition to outdo each other always played as the intermolecular force that bond the two together. On the level playing field, it was absolute by nature and truly got into the nerves to witness the sudden surge in hormonal levels at times. The surge was quite imminent following a rash rivalry that wasn't quintessentially personal. This ephemeral nature of their dissension was known to all. I thank my schooling to witness, as a live spectator, to all the events that unfolded. All admired each other in the class with talent overflowing the brim!
Can't recollect if in history, till the duo were in school, ever calmed down on being asked to calm down during an altercation. Cheese or chalk they were in catfights. While a couple of boys would never miss opportunity when it was time to take over the catfight, they sprinkled water on the fighting cats to rouse them more. It was mischief lurking round the bend under the watchful eyes of the teacher, especially when whatever you were fighting about never got resolved and one of them went stomping away to cool off. To kill that post-fight awkwardness, it wouldn't take much time to reconcile once more and leave the spat aside. Being cheese and chalk never applied to the warring girls, now graceful ladies, but still continuing with their old passion.
It thus happened that the class got united with the like minded ones over a chat platform, sharing messages, jokes and serious stuff. The boys being boys, in that group despite having ethically matured beyond lines, would start pulling their legs as in the yester years. Sometimes. It'd be such that the two would stop chatting and had to be coaxed into chats once again. While Raamdulari was a bit relaxed and flexible, the other was plastic. Wouldn't bend!
But then, Raampyari and Raamdulari would fiercely contest anyone who would trouble either of them or both. They used to sit on the desk together, sharing a common desk and, fought till the end to see an end to it. Never unnerving before the opponent and ensuring stop in full to bury the hatchet.
A great way to smooth over an argument with someone was to get them laughing — and courtesy of our immediate access to the nuances of recalcitrants donning the best caps in our class. What better way to do that than with a hilarious act of mischief? That used to send everyone into reels of laughter and all were soon forgotten for good.
